The Juna Foundation - Born from Love, Flourishing through Humanity
Thanks for visiting!
The Juna Foundation is a project started from love.  It is a combination of love for reading, family, and the idea that all children be given a chance at success through their ability to read.

It was founded as a tribute to two incredible women.  June Hickman and Vina Wise.  The name, inspired as a blending of both women's names, encapsulates a joint desire that all children be given the gift of a future through a solid foundation in literacy.  It's meaning, queen of heaven, and protector of women, illustrates the embodiment of the two extraordinary sisters, mothers, daughters, and friends.

Mt. Olive Baptist Church reaches out through Vacation Bible School Service Project

The loving congregation of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Supply, NC incorporated a book collection project into their VBS this summer.  The JUNA Foundation is humbled by both the effort and results of the collection.  One hundred and eleven books were donated that will be incorporated into the programs that JUNA is contributing books to.  It is through the amazing human spirit and goodness in so many people of all ages that our books continue to be replenished.  This congregation has a special place in JUNA's heart as they are the church family of Amy
Frink and family, June's family.  Thank yous are extended to all for the blessings bestowed.

Book Bags Donated to Domestic Violence Shelter

Volunteers met in June 2012 to prepare 15 "book bags" for children that seek shelter in emergency situations.  The bags included age appropriate books and personal items that might make the shock of seeking shelter a little less abrupt.  JUNA hopes to continue to replenish the bags through donations and make these available to all children who are transitioning through the shelters.  Thank you to all you helped prepare and deliver the books.

JUNA s Foundation donates books and puzzles to the new Brunswick County Hospice Center

JUNA has volunteered to contribute and maintain the bookshelf in the children's area at the new BC Hospice Center.  A group of volunteers delivered a bookcase full of gently used and new books to the Center and placed puzzles and books that could be used by children whose family or friends are in the Hospice Center.  Thank you to all who assisted with set up and for the continued donations earmarked for the Hospice Center.

With Heavy Hearts

It is with a heavy heart that we share that one of the most courageous and amazing women on this earth has passed after such a hard fought battle with cancer.  June, our inspiration for this foundation died on May 1, 2012 surrounded by a family that loves her beyond measure.  Through Junes determination, spirituality, compassion, and love we will move forward with our projects whose inception came from her ideas of blessing people.

The embodiment of her spirit is intertwined in the tenets we base our projects on and we will continue to share the amazing women whose memory inspires us to pay forward the goodness that abounds in a giving spirit.

Please keep Junes family lifted in your prayers.

With Love,
Melissa
